The Big Island, Hawaii
Shooting the heavens is amazing. On top of the dormant volcano Mauna Kea on the Big Island felt like I was on top of the world. At 14,000 feet, I felt I could almost reach up and touch the sky. As the sun  set, a whole new world opened up and I was blown away. I have never seen anything like it! I left the coast at 85° but the conditions on top of the summit were brutal. 30°!!! Also, altitude sickness was making me extremely dizzy and disorientated but I just had to get the shot. The camera sees what the human eye can’t, and after a 30-second exposure I was stunned at the beauty that was revealed in front of me: the roaring Milky Way. The telescope added a human perspective to complete this moment that I will remember forever.
